SUNDAY MESSAGES

Lessons from the Upper Room – Jesus’ Promises

This week in our final message in Lessons from the Upper Room, Pastor Danny McDowell shares 5 of Jesus’ Promises:

  • Knowing the Father through Jesus.
  • That we are called to greater works.
  • We have a helper, and a blessing in the Holy Spirit.
  • Knowing Jesus will bring us peace.

Below are some questions from today’s message that you might like to reflect on or discuss in your small group.

  1. Do you know the Father through Jesus? Would you like to talk more about how to make Jesus your Lord and Saviour?
  2. Do you recognise, rely on, and feel blessed when you acknowledge that you have the power of the helper – the Holy Spirit – residing within you?
  3. Are you experiencing that ‘shalom’ kind of peace of completeness, wholeness, fullness, harmony and the absence of agitation or discord? Do you want that peace? What might be getting in the way?
  4. How can you bring ‘peace’ to those around you this week?

Lessons from The Upper Room – Relationships

This week, Pastor Danny McDowell shared about our relationship with Jesus; our relationship with one another in Jesus; and our relationship with the world.

Below are some questions from today’s message that you might like to reflect on or discuss in your small group.

1. Do you know the Father through Jesus? Would you like to talk more about how to make Jesus your Lord and Saviour?

2. Have you grabbed hold of the promise that He has great works in store for you to achieve in His name?

3. Do you recognise, rely on, and feel blessed when you acknowledge that you have the power of the helper – the Holy Spirit – residing within you?

4. In Jesus, you can have peace – that ‘shalom’ kind of all-encompassing peace. Are you experiencing that peace?

Lessons from the Upper Room – Heaven

Pastor Danny McDowell spoke about how we need to trust that Jesus will come for us and take us to the place he has prepared for us so we can spend eternity with him.

Below are some questions from today’s message that you might like to reflect on or discuss in your small group.

1. Where is your trust level in Jesus right now? In what areas of your life are you able to see that He has the situation in His hands?

2. As Jesus’ representative here on earth, in what ways are you a ‘prodomoi’ – a forerunner – to those around you in helping them to understand that only in a life-changing relationship with Him can they be assured of an eternity in heaven? How are you encouraged, day to day, to live like someone who is a follower of the One who will have the ultimate victory?

3. Jesus is the way – the only way. Jesus is the truth – the only truth. Jesus is the life – the only life. Jesus alone is the way to the Father. If you believe that promise of His, then you have a place in heaven secured for you. If you don’t yet believe that Jesus is the only way; the only truth; and the only life – then what is it that is holding you back from taking that step?

Lessons from the Upper Room – LOVE

Pastor Danny McDowell talks about how Jesus explains the relationship between love and service; what long-suffering love looks like; and how we are called to love one another.

Below are some questions from today’s message that you might like to reflect on or discuss in your small group:

  1. Do you have friends, or family members, that require this kind of Christ-like love, (that as followers of Jesus we are called to display), who, at times, are far from Christ-like themselves?
  2. What does ‘going to the Cross’ look like for you? Does it look like obligation or does it look like love?  Is it something you have to do, or something you want to do?
  3. When you ‘go to the Cross’, are you glorifying God? Does your love for others have string attached?  Is it coming from the heart? How could you reset your attitude to loving others?
  4. Selfless.  Sacrificial.  Understanding.  Forgiving.  As His church – Does YOUR love look like that?
